Yesterday decided to update my site as it’s running on WordPress as it’s so much easier for the blogging aspects of things. I’d updated WordPress itself and next was to update the theme to accommodate the changes in WordPress update. As I was doing this, I was too hesitant and overwrote a few files into a wrong folder on the database. Result being my site was down.

As an IT person, I know better – should always, always and always keep backups of everything in case something goes wrong, which it did this time. I’d only overwritten some vital files, so thought best to do a backup of what still remained on the server in the database. Unfortunately the backup had not backed everything up, so I ended up losing the whole shebang – that being my entire website with all it’s content – pages, photos & blog posts :( My own fault for not having had a backup before starting an update.

That was four months of travel blogging down the drain, at least was my initial assumptions has everything was gone from the database. Later last night as pondered the loss of the blog posts, I remembered a year ago having installed the WordPress App onto my iPhone to test it out for blogging purposes. To my luck it hadn’t had a chance to sync everything with the database and it seemed that at least some of my posts were still on the iPhone. Upon noticing this I immediately turned of WIFI, so that there wasn’t a chance of any syncing happening and me losing whatever was still on the iPhone.

So one by one I copy pasted the posts to my Notes App on the iPhone and it seems I’ve been able to retrieve at least 95% if not all of my posts. All the other content -comments, photos, maps, routes and pages had been synced and removed. No worries, all that for the exception of comments I can redo and upload onto the site.

It will take me a while to get the site back to what it was, but I’m sure I should have it up and running full speed by the end of the week, that is if Jabes, Jeff and I get The Simpson jigsaw puzzle done tomorrow :D I’m well keeping myself busy and out of mischief :D
